What is microneedling?
If you are looking for a way to improve your skin's appearance, you may want to consider a microneedling treatment. This minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, texture and scars. It can also stimulate collagen production, resulting in firmer, younger-looking skin.
Microneedling has minimal down time and has endless skin enhancing benefits. One of the main reasons why people opt for microneedling treatment is to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment works by stimulating collagen production, which in turn helps to fill in lines and wrinkles.
Microneedling treatment can also help fade scars and stretch marks.
What to expect during a treatment?
After undergoing a microneedling treatment, your skin may be red and slightly swollen for a few days. You should keep your skin well moisturized with a gentle, non-comeogenic lotion and avoid direct sunlight. Once the initial post-treatment inflammation has faded, you should notice an improvement in the appearance of your skin. Over the coming weeks, your skin will gradually begin to heal and regenerate new collagen for a more youthful appearance.
The needles used in the procedure create micro controlled injuries in the skin, which stimulates healing. As the skin heals, it produces collagen and elastin, which can help improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks. If you are self-conscious about scars or stretch marks, microneedling can help. Another benefit of microneedling is that it can be done anywhere on the body for scar revision. Typically 1-3 treatments are recommended to help with scar revision spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
You will feel very little during the treatment. The tiny needles used by the device don’t even puncture as far as a tattoo needle, so a light pressure is usually the only sensation. However, we always use a medical-grade topical numbing agent for the skin before the procedure begins. The numbing will prevent most sensations during the treatment. In addition to reducing wrinkles and scars, microneedling can also help improve your skin's texture. The treatment can help minimize pores, refine rough skin texture, and even out skin tone. Microneedling often results in smooth, soft skin.
What are the risks with microneedling?
Redness and minor swelling are often reported by people who have had the treatment. However, the needles rarely even break the skin barrier when “damaging” the skin, so redness or bruising usually disappears after 48 hours.
